Gastronomic Benidorm 2012

The Gastronomic Benidorm 2012 program is now available reinforcing its commitment to a varied gastronomic product quality and outstanding tourist attraction. This year we can enjoy the II Contest Tapa and Pincho, the Third Conference of Gastronomic Benidorm, and new this year, the First Conference of the spoon or the First Day of Rice in Benidorm, among other activities that serve to highlight the products of the soil and ultimately present the local cuisine as it is, a delicious wealth for the most demanding gourmets.

New confirmations on Low Cost Festival

Is Tropical and Placebo have just confirmed their presence in the Low Cost Benidorm Festival that takes place this summer on 27, 28 and 29 July at Guillermo Amor Sports City. Is Tropical joined Suede and Placebo, Kasabian, Vetusta Morla , The Whip, Jero Romero (Sunday Drivers), Le Corps Mince Francoise, Anni B Sweet, Make the Girls Dance and McKenroe.

This is the third confirmation of groups for the festival in 2012, after already known participation in the Low Cost of La Casa Azul, Ivan Ferreiro, The Right Ons, Second, The Swing Murderer, The Room Red Fuel Fandango, The New Raemon, Bigott, The Zombie Kids, We Are Standard, Supersubmarina, Bizarre Love Triangle and Varry Brava.

Is Tropical bring originality to the festival with his "infectious pop" and dance and the Swedish band The Sounds get another surprise to the lineup. Meanwhile, the London band Placebo confirmed his performance in Benidorm as the only date for national festivals.

The edition of 2012 Low Cost Festival will be special, because for the first time the activity will include the Certificate Vivo official seal of environmental quality for events. A certificate will result in a sustainable management plan of production, as the event, and will affect the recycling of waste generated, the use of potato starch for the whole process of diffusion and tickets, use of media collective transport less polluting and energy saving.

Five projects to provide a viewpoint to Punta Llisera reach their final stage of public exhibition

The councilman of Urbanism, Juan Angel Ferrer, has reported this morning that, finally, five studies have been selected as best suited to provide the area of Punta Llisera a public observation deck on the bay of the city, in Levante area.

'Silhouette', 'Three silences', 'Where the eye can see', 'Miradorm' and 'Over the Moon'on a total of 66 works presented are the slogans of the finalists, which now will go to public exhibition to be the residents of the municipality who give their opinion on the most suitable project. In the process of selecting projects have been taken into account factors such as architectural quality, adaptation to environment, accessibility, sustainability and cost.

Ferrer has stressed that the proposed construction of this new viewpoint has "zero cost" for the city, as it will be the builder of the property Twins 28, Terras de l'Horta, who takes over the work.

Benidorm: Umek, Carl Cox, Marco Carola y Marco Bailey headliners of Electrobeach 2012

The Slovenian DJ Umek, Carl Cox, Marco Carola, Marco Bailey will be the headliners of the third edition of Electrobeach 2012 to be held in Benidorm on 17 and 18 August and which will add more than 20 artists.

Councilman Festivals and Events, Conrado Hernandez, next to the festival's artistic director, Cristian Varela, and the representative of Ociobal, Richard Romero, presented the electronic music festival in the city that grows from last year and a poster showing higher quality to the previous edition.

Cristian Varela said this year's agenda will focus Electrobeach in two days, Friday 17 and Saturday 18 August, adding that the change in dates is due to the improvement of the cartel "to avoid conflict with other music festivals and so they can come get the great representatives of electronic music. "

On behalf of Ociobal, Richard Romero, said Electrobeach philosophy is that Benidorm remains the festival venue and said it will repeat the 'Sunset Session' at the Mirador del Castillo, the 'Beach Session' on the Levante beach and performances in pubs and clubs in the city, both days, and the Global Party on Saturday 18, in Terra Mitica.

For his part, Councillor for Festivals and Events, Conrado Hernández, said that the City Council wholeheartedly support this type of "tourism promotion lines" that provide economic sense to the city and attract new audiences to Benidorm, as is the young tourist. Hernandez recalled that last year was ranked Electrobeach the fifth festival of electronic music's most critical national with a visit of more than 40,000 young people, "a significant achievement to get in its second year of life."

In addition, the mayor stressed that the area contributed to the city Electrobeach 3 million in four days, "that affect the taxi industry, restaurants, bars, entertainment, hotels and campsites in the city," and added that The festival featured more than 200 accredited journalists and appearances in different media, national and international, are comparable to a promotion of the city estimated at 2 million. "We are in crisis, but the machine can not stop and must be given to events that can offer added value," explained Hernandez explained that the City will work with the institutional promotion and infrastructure.

As for ticket prices, Cristian Varela explained that the amount has been reduced by 10% and it said that next week will go on sale through Internet portals and social networks, the first fertilizer of Electrobeach that will be priced at 18 euros, "which will gradually increase as you approach the date of celebration."

Two out of three aint bad for Bankies in Benidorm

Clydebank FC Under 16s travelled out to Benidorm over easter for the prestigious Costa Blanca Cup and the boys found themselves up against top Spanish sides. They aquitted themselves well winning 2 out of their 3 matches but missed out in the semi final stage by 1 point after finishing 2nd in the group. The matches were played in top quality pitches in various stadiums around the Benidorm area in superb weather conditions.

Match 1

EMF Calpe 2 v 0 Clydebank FC

Clydebank Boys FC 16s had their first match in the Spanish sunshine and the boys travelled out to Calpe to take on the home team in a tough match that saw the boys compete well and more than match the Spanish opposition.

The young Bankies had a series of corners early in the match that saw the Spaniards clear off the line from Botti Bia-bi and Chris Warrilow come close with a great chance before Calpe scored to take the lead before half time.

The young Bankies pushed for the equaliser in the 2nd half  as a clear handball from the Calpe defender in the box was denied by the local referee and Toye hit the bar from a few yards out. Calpe hit the young Bankies with a sucker punch late in the game and this result would prove costly for the Bankies later in tournament.

Match 2

C.D Moratalaz 1 v 3 Clydebank FC

Clydebank Boys FC 16s had it all to do when they come up against a team from Madrid that were highly fancied in the tournament. The Bankies made tactical changes in this match which worked a treat. Clydebank took an early lead as a Ryan McAllen freekick was headed into his own net by the Madrid defender.

The in form Joe Toye made a great run down he right and put in a perfect pass into the edge of the box for the incoming Joe McGinley to rifle a shot into the net. 

The Spanish team were well rattled at this point as Justo linked with Toye again cut into the box and sent a diagional shot into the top corner as the young Bankies found themselves 3-0 up against one of the best sides they have ever played.

The Madrid side pulled back a goal before half time. The Spaniards resorted to the physical side of there game in a heated second half that wasn't helped by a poor referee with Joe McGinley also hitting the post. But the young Bankies did their coaches and travelling support proud by seeing out the game and defeating the top Madrid outfit.

Match 3 

C.D Calasanz De Santander 0 v 2 Clydebank FC

Clydebank went into the final group game knowing that other results would have to go their way and they would need a win with as many goals as possible to reach the semi finals.

The young Bankies dominated this match from start to finish against a physical side from Northern Spain. Calum Davidson opened the scoring with a good drive into the bottom corner to give Clydebank a 1-0 lead.

Bankies were awarded a freekick outside the box and Ryan McAllen squared to Botti Bia-bi to flight in a good strike over the keeper into the net.

  

Unfortunately results in other groups didnt go Clydebank's way as the boys knew finishing second in their group would not secure a semi final place. But the boys held up their heads knowing that 2 wins out of 3 against top Spanish sides was a great experience in what was a superby run tournament.

Amazingly the young Bankies have played in four European tournaments in Holland, Italy and Spain twice and have lost only 1 match out of 24 matches played.

Steve Pemberton: Benidorm has made me love Spain

Steve Pemberton says filming 'Benidorm' has changed his opinion of the Spanish resort because he used to think it was full of "leery Brits abroad".

Steve Pemberton says filming 'Benidorm' has changed his opinion of the Spanish resort.

The 44-year-old actor - who plays Mick Garvey in the ITV1 comedy, which is set primarily in the all-inclusive Solona hotel complex - enjoys the relaxed nature of filming the programme in the coastal town, but he used to think it was full of "leery Brits abroad".

He said: "It's a tremendous show to film - everyone has a ball and the people are so nice. What could be better than turning up to work and sitting by a pool in the sunshine?

"People have great affection for Benidorm. It's not everyone's idea of a good time, and it would never have been mine before I went.

"There's a season when all the stag and hen parties go and that can be a little bit threatening but we film off-season and I've never seen a fight or leery 'Brits abroad' antics.

"There's no pretension about Benidorm. No one cares what they look like, they just let it all hang out and have a good time.

"I'm not a big party animal but I enjoy lying on a sun lounger by a pool like Mick but with a book, not a beer."

As well as starring in 'Benidorm', Steve started writing episodes for the fifth series - which concluded last Friday (06.04.12) - because it tied in well with his new exercise regime, which helped him shed two stone last year.

He added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I have regular check-ups. I lost two stone last year by dieting and taking up jogging.

"I was writing episodes of Benidorm and was finally able to manage my time to fit in the exercise."

Spanish Benidorm offers more than sandy beaches

The Spanish coastal town of Benidorm is a popular tourist spot thanks to sandy beaches as well as numerous skyscrapers. Among the top attractions however are also local theme parks.

People can take a glimpse back at how Old Spain was by visiting Benidorm Old Town. The streets are cobbled and people can enjoy shopping and dining at one of the many establishments located here. Culture and history lovers will love what the Old Town has to offer them.

People who enjoy bike riding can ride bicycles from the top of Costa Blanca Mountain. There are many trails and bike routes at Costa Blanca. If a person does not want to do it alone, then there are many places that offer bike tours for Costa Blanca.

To get from Alicante Airport to Benidorm, you can take the new Benidorm Bus from the Airport or the narrow gauge railway from downtown Alicante. The so called FGV is the little Benidorm - Denia train which is also a wonderful way of getting around the Costa Blanca area.
